Certified Fiber Optic Specialist-Outside Plant (CFOS/O)
Duration: Two Days (16 hours)
This is a specialist certification covering fiber optic splicing procedures intended for technicians involved in the installation of Outside Plant (OSP) fiber networks. The training is focused on hands on training approach. The Instructor will test and provide verification of achievement of advanced skills in splicing. The course consists of 60% lab time.
Prerequisite: Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT)
Course Objectives
• Comprehensive training on splicing (both mechanical and fusion)
• In depth understanding of splicing equipment,
• Hands on lab sessions on mechanical and fusion splicing
• Practice on appropriate placement of the splice into splice tray and enclosure
• Deep understanding and interpretation of the OTDR Trace
Upon completion of this course, participants will be proficient in performing all types of splicing using a variety of splicing equipment, perform OTDR testing and interpret the traces and know the various types of cable and enclosures for OSP applications. Successful completion will lead to specialist certification by the Fiber Optic Association that is vital in various job roles like Fiber Optic Splicing Technician, Installation Technician, network operator, network maintenance technician, test and measurement technician and components and systems designers.
